Your journey begins in Reykjavík, Iceland's vibrant capital, where youll dive right into the citys eclectic food scene and warm hospitality with a Reykjavík Food Walk. From there, you'll explore iconic landmarks like Þingvellir National Park, relax in geothermal baths, and feel the raw power of famous waterfalls such as Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, and the awe-inspiring Dettifoss. Adventurous spirits will delight in a glacier walk through Skaftafells captivating ice formations and a horseback ride through the serene landscapes of Skagafjörður.
As you journey through Icelands remote and rugged Eastfjords, youll find tranquillity in charming villages like Borgarfjörður Eystri and Seyðisfjörður, before soaking up the striking volcanic landscapes around Lake Mývatn. Itinerary
Welcome to Iceland! Upon your arrival pick up the rental car at the airport and drive to Reykjavík for an overnight stay and get settled in. Depending on your arrival, dive into the heart of Reykjavík with the Reykjavík Food Walk! This guided tour will give you an authentic taste of the city, allowing you to savour delicious local delicacies while learning about Reykjavík ‘s vibrant culture, rich history and unique traditions.

If you did not have the time to do the Reykjavík Food Walk on your arrival day, start the day by joining the tour. Getting the true local Reykjavík experience. In the afternoon take part in a sea angling tour from the Reykjavík harbour where you have a good chance of catching cod, haddock, rockfish and pollock. Second overnight stay in Reykjavík.

Explore the Golden Circle, one of Iceland ‘s most famous routes. Begin at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Marvel at the erupting geysers at Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur the butter churn erupts every few minutes. Continue to Gullfoss the stunning „Golden Falls “. After a full day of exploration, unwind at the Secret Lagoon, a geothermal hot spring known for its natural, rustic charm. End the day with an overnight stay in the Golden Circle area.

Today, continue your journey along Iceland’s stunning south coast. Start by standing behind the plummeting Seljalandsfoss waterfall, then walk up to Skógafoss to admire its impressive 60-meter drop. Next, head to Vík in Mýrdalur, Iceland’s southernmost village, nestled among cliffs teeming with thriving birdlife. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers, black sand beaches, and striking rock formations. Finish the day with an overnight stay in the South Coast area.

Continue your journey along Iceland’s stunning South Coast. Your day begins with a visit to the Eldhraun Lava Field, one of the largest lava fields in the world, formed by a massive eruption in the 18th century. As you drive through the area, marvel at the vast, moss-covered lava rocks that create a surreal and otherworldly landscape.
If weather and road conditions allow, take the opportunity to visit the magnificent Fjarðárgljúfur Canyon, located near Kirkjubæjarklaustur. This awe-inspiring canyon, believed to have formed around 9,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, offers spectacular views with its steep, moss-covered walls and winding river running through the valley. It’s a perfect spot for photography and taking in the breathtaking scenery.
After a day of exploring these natural wonders, you’ll head to your overnight stay in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a charming village nestled in the heart of the South Coast. Overnight stay in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

Before reaching Skaftafell National Park you will drive through the black sands of Skeiðarársandur. The sands serve as a gateway for the ever-changing glacier rivers. At Skaftafell National Park you can take a short hike to the picturesque waterfall Svartifoss, surrounded by basalt columns. For the more enthusiastic, Skaftafell offers plenty of hiking trails. Join a guided Glacier Walk before heading further past the south side of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull, including Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur 2.110 m / 6.923 ft. Nested between the glacier and the ocean, one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, Jöklulsarlón Glacier Lagoon, with its floating icebergs, is situated. Make sure you also visit the Diamond Beach by the lagoon where the icebergs which fill the lagoon wash up on shore. Return to the Klaustur area for an overnight.

Start the day early, by travelling all the way to Borgarfjörður Eystri to join a tour to the puffin colony. Where you can get a close-up look at these charming seabirds. Borgarfjörður Eystri a village renowned for its stunning natural beauty and famously known as the home of the Queen of Elves. Afterwards, you might visit Seyðisfjörður, a picturesque village renowned for its coloful houses and scenic surroundings. Second overnight stay in the Eastfjords.

Next, head to Húsavík, Iceland’s whale watching capital, where you take part in a whale watching tour to spot these magnificent creatures. If time permits, consider visiting Ásbyrgi, a horseshoe-shaped canyon with lush greenery and peaceful hiking trails. Enjoy your second overnight stay in the Mývatn/Húsavík area

Picturesque Goðafoss waterfall is located on the way to Akureyri, the so-called capital of North. The charming city centre has kept its danish style while Akureyri was long a danish trading centre. The women of the danish merchants did miss trees from their homeland, and started to plant them at the hill next to the harbour, this became one of the most northernly located botanical gardens. From Akureyri you have the option of driving along the coast of Tröllaskagi peninsula or throught the mountains. Both ways will take you to the Skagafjörður area where you will spend the night.

Skagarfjörður is one of the best known destinations for riders in Iceland, so before you continue your travel take part in a horseback riding tour. On your way to Borgarfjörður you will pass Vatnsdalshólar, a unique cluster of hills that is thought to have formed after a catastrophic landslide, adding an intriguing geological feature to the landscape. Consider stopping by the Seal Center in Hvammstangi, a perfect opportunity to learn about Iceland‘s facinating seal speacies. Join a goat walking tour – something you have never tried before. We highly recommend visiting the Settlement Centre in Borgarnes to learn about the Viking Age and Iceland’s early settlers. Consider a visit to Deildartunguhver, Iceland’s most powerful hot spring, and marvel at its incredible natural force. Not far from here, you’ll find the picturesque waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, both offering stunning views and peaceful surroundings. Second overnight stay in Borgarfjörður area.

Today, you’ll make your way through the stunning Hvalfjörður on your journey back to Reykjavík for your final night. The name "Hvalfjörður," which means Whale Fjord, perfectly captures the natural beauty of this serene location. As you travel, take time to stop at several viewpoints that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and learn about the strategic role the fjord played during the Second World War, serving as an important site for Allied forces. Before heading to Reykjanes for your final overnight in Iceland.
