Overview

Laos is a beautiful landlocked country in the middle of Southeast Asia. The Mekong River flows through green jungles and tall mountains, making the country a true gem.

There are many beautiful contrasts in Laos. The country has a rich culture history and stunning natural landscapes. People in Laos are known for being friendly and open, and they always greet tourists with smiles and open arms.

Take a cruise down the Mekong River to get to Pak Ou Cave, which is a holy place with thousands of Buddha figures tucked into the limestone cliffs. The trip gives you a look into Laos's spiritual heart and its long history of Buddhist practices.

Explore the old town of Muang Khoun, where colonial buildings and crumbling churches tell stories of the past. As you walk through these streets, time seems to have stopped. They are full of history and wonder.

Vientiane, the capital city, has both new and old things in its grand buildings, busy markets, and riverside walkways. Enjoy the city's lively street food scene, which is full of tasty treats like spicy papaya salad and fragrant laap, a traditional chopped meat salad.

Go south to the peaceful 4000 Islands, an archipelago full of palm trees that sway in the wind and quiet towns. You can relax here while listening to the gentle beat of the river and maybe even see some Irrawaddy dolphins playing in the currents.

With its emerald greens and tumbling waterfalls, the Bolaven Plateau calls to people who like to take risks. You can hike through lush coffee farms and enjoy the earthy smell of freshly brewed coffee, or you can cool off in the cool waters of Tad Fane, a beautiful twin waterfall tucked away in the plateau's lush embrace.

The streets of Laos are full of new experiences, stories, and tastes just ready to be found. So, come experience the timeless beauty of this land where peace and beauty know no limits.

Itinerary

When you get to Luang Prabang International Airport, your guide and driver will pick you up and take you to your hotel.

There are a lot of colourful textiles, carvings, basketry, ceramics, clothing, handmade paper goods, and even Beer Lao T-shirts for sale here. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Rise early to the sound of the temple gong and witness Luang Prabang’s mystical ritual. Every day, a group of about 300 young monks walks by quietly, carrying metal bowls of sticky rice and other foods. It's cool in the early morning. The rite comes from a Buddhist practice in which monks beg for food every day to show how humble they are. In Buddhism, giving alms is a very important religious act that everyone, including guests, should do with respect. Your guide will be happy to show you how to best talk to the monks if you want to help with the food offering.

The best time to walk through Luang Prabang's morning market is early in the morning, when people are haggling over fresh meat, fruit, and veggies. After breakfast at your hotel, take a boat up the tea-colored Mekong River to get to the Pak Ou Caves. Lots of small and large images of Buddha have been left in the caves by people who worship him. You won't believe how many are crammed in! You are going to eat lunch at Mekong Back. Before heading back to town early in the afternoon, you will stop at a village by a river to watch weavers work on old looms.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Our first stop before leaving the city is Wat Pa Phon Phao, a golden temple with a great view of Luang Prabang. We will ride from the city centre to get there. Next, continue along the paved road through teakwood forests and rice fields along the Nam Khan River to see where Henry Mouhot rested. Then, we'll ride our bikes through villages and past mountains covered in jungle until we reach the terrace of our Tiger Trail Adventure Camp on the Nam Khan River. Take a boat to our trekking start spot in the beautiful Nam Khan River valley for an easy walk through the jungle at the base of the Karst mountains. We'll have lunch in a big Khmu town and look around at how hill-tribe people live before starting our walk down a new trail to the Tad Sae Waterfall (seasonal).

We'll enjoy the beautiful scenery and swim in the Tad Sae Waterfall. Some people also like to watch and take pictures of elephants in the area. You can also buy bananas to feed them. After a short boat ride downriver, you'll meet the car that will take you back to Luang Prabang, ending this fun and exciting tour. It usually takes two hours with breaks to bike the 15 km (9 mi) of mostly paved road. After lunch and a walk to a village, the trek is about 7 km (4.5 mi) long.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

After breakfast, you should go up to see the famous Plain of Jars. This is a huge area around Phonsavanh where more than 300 huge stone jars have been cut out of solid rock. Each one is up to 3.25 metres tall and weighs up to six tonnes. And thought to be between 2,500 and 3,000 years old. Local tradition says that King Khun Chuang built them to store wine for a party to celebrate taking over the province in the sixth century. We go to Sites I, II, and III. Before going back to Phonsavanh, keep going to Ban Na Pia, which means "War Spoon Village." Then, go to the beautiful Muang Khoun. It was the ancient capital, created by Chao Noi Muang, and a stronghold for the Xieng Khouang royal family. During the Indochina War, it was destroyed. The town was rebuilt after 1975. It now has a market area and rows of Lao wooden homes. Other places we visit are Wat Phia Wat, That Foun, and That Chomphet.

There are lots of things there, like food, clothes, and hobbies.

We'll take the D88 (8:08–09:00) or C92 (10:45–11:40) train to Vang Vieng today.

When we get there, we'll start our trip to Tham Chang Cave, which is one of the most beautiful and grand caves in Vang Vieng, Laos. Visitors had to check out the area because it is so peaceful. The water inside the cave is clear and very blue. The shining Buddha figure is a great view that you might get to see.
The cave Tham Phu Kham is northwest of Vang Vieng, Laos. It is right next to the village of Ban Na Thong. The name "Blue Lagoon" comes from the colour of the water. The people in the area worship the cave, which has many Buddha statues inside. The biggest is a bronze Buddha that is lying down in the main cave.

Accommodation:  Amari Vang Vieng -  Superior River View, or something similar.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Today we leave Vang Vieng and go to where the boating starts. After learning how to paddle and being told about safety, we set out down the beautiful Nam Song River. A few small waves will be part of our journey to our first stop at Tham Xang, or the Elephant Cave. We will learn about the past of the area as we walk up to the huge cave that looks like a theatre. Once we get out of the cave, we'll take a short boat ride to a picnic area by the river, where we'll have lunch. We'll keep going down the river after lunch until we reach our next stop, which is the Organic Farm, where mulberry tea and a number of fruit wines are made.

The Tham None Cave is one of the biggest caves in Vang Vieng. We get there by going down the stream. During the Second Indochina War, it was used by people as a bomb shelter. The "Magic Stone of Vang Vieng" and a group of bats live there now. Our guides will tell us about the cave's past and how the magic stone works. Getting to Vang Vieng, where we will arrive just in time for sunset, is the last part of the trip. It's a gentle paddle downstream.

Today, we will take a train back to Vientiane, C85 11:08 - 12:17

When you get to Vientiane, you'll be taken to your hotel to check in. After that, you can start seeing the main sights. Start your quick walk at Pha That Luang, which is a national symbol of Laos and is shown on the country's seal and money. Take a look at the big stupa that is covered in tonnes of gold leaf and surrounded by 30 smaller stupas. Also, don't miss the hand-painted frescoes that cover the walls inside. Climb to the viewing platform of Patouxai, which is Vientiane's arc de triomphe and a look into the city's past as a French colony. After that, go to the Lao Textile Museum.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Our guide and driver will take you to the airport today so you can catch your trip to Pakse. As you arrive in Pakse, the provincial capital of Champasak, you'll find that it is a sleepy place with traces of colonial building. Pakse was once a French town. Before we get to the plains of the Bolaven Plateau, we will stop to see coffee farms, towns, and a forest. The plateau is in the middle of an old volcano that erupted thousands of years ago. It has lush vegetation, rich soil, and a mild temperature all year, which makes it perfect for growing Arabica and Robusta coffee. You can see rivers and enjoy the cool weather, which isn't common in Southeast Asia.

Accommodation:  La Folie Lodge - River View Room, or something similar.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Visit the ruins of the Wat Phou temple complex, which was built two hundred years before Angkor Wat, which is Cambodia's most famous landmark. The carvings that were cut deep into the stone at Wat Phou were the most amazing thing about the trip. This lintel, which hung over the top of a doorway, was stunning; it was a real work of art that showed how well people could make intricate details. A freshwater spring flows from the rock on top of the temple. This is one reason why the temple was built and has stood strong since before the main Angkorian time of Khmer rule.

Accommodation:  Pon Arena Hotel - Deluxe Room, or something similar.

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

After breakfast, take a cruise past the many small islands that make up this tropical paradise to Khone Phapeng and Li Phi Falls, which are the biggest waterfalls in Asia. They are at the very southern tip of Laos, where a swirling torrent of water flows into Cambodia every second, bringing thousands of litres of water with it. You might see some of the rare and hard to find pink Irrawaddy dolphins if you're lucky. The dolphins are thought to be linked to the killer whale because they have big, round heads and short noses.
